SPEAK LOUDLY

Yesterday I've read Mr Scroggins's article and I was so angry and upset that I couldn't find the words to do this post. But today I'm gonna do it. I've never exceprienced this. But I'm disgusted by this man. He wrote that rape is "soft pornography". When has rape has ever been porn? Rape is rape. It's never the victim fault. Rape is something that teens face and they need to know about it by their parents, friends, school or a book. What I took away from this article is that Mr Scroggins wants us to SHUP UP about it ! And you know what ? I'm Christian but if my children one day would like to read this book I'll let them whem they hit the appropriate age because it's one of the problems that many people face in our society and why now because of guys like Mr Scroggins so many victims do not speak up when they should. So why should school ban Speak???
I'll be honest Speak was not one of my favorite reads but it has a powerful and important message and this message should be speak up !!! Over the past ten years, Laurie Halse Anderson (the author of Speak) has received thousands and thousands of emails and letters from readers about how Speak has given them the courage to speak up. I've been reading so many posts yesterday, so many posts from girls who have spoken up. Each one brings tears to my eyes. And I cried more when I read one of my friend's post. I admire her strength for posting this, for speaking up,  and I'm really proud of her!  I highly suggest Dr Scroggins do a bit more research before he stars calling any YA book a "soft pornography". I certainly hope he never has a daughter in that sort of situation.
