Goodreads : Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.
Tessa Gray should be happy - aren't all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her.
My review : This is the third book in the Infernal Devices series the prequel to the Mortal Instruments. If you haven't started this series don't read my review because it might contain spoilers.
I don't know how to start this
review... I've been waiting to read this book for more than a year. I
had high expectations because Clockwork Prince was one of my
favorite book in 2012 and the Infernal Devices is one of my
favorite series.
Once again I loved reading this book because
Cassandra Clare is such a talented writer. I was so happy to start
this book and read about these characters that I love. I'm really
attached to these characters, each one of them are unique and I
wanted to know how it would end for them especially for Tessa because
she is one of my favorite heroine even if I think Magnus is one of my
favorite character ever. I was also excited to be back in this
atmosphere, London in the Victorian period. I'm currently living in
England and i'm studying Victorian literature at university right now
so I feel really connected to that series and this world that the
author created of shadowunters and downwolders is something I love to
read since I discovered it in 2010.
I really admire Cassandra Clare's
writing, her characters are unique, her plot quite complex and filled
with actions. However what I love about the Infernal Devices
is that there is a triangle couple and it's working and I love it.
I'm not usually a fan of it and it is quite difficult to write and
create a triangle couple without being cheesy or without repeating
something that has been done before in another YA book. But in the
Infernal Devices it works !
I think the thing that I love the
most about this series is the parabatai connexion between Jem and
Will but it is also connected to the love triangle and... it's just
amazing ! I've never experienced that before. We have a triangle
couple and I can't decide between Will and Jem. I fell in love with
Will in the first one and then with Jem in the second book.
And
another thing I admire about Cassandra Clare's writing : all the
different point of views featured in her books. It must be so
difficult to write like that but it is interesting for the readers
and an amazing glimpse into a character's personnaliy. Clockwork
Princess as the other two books was suspenseful. I was afraid
before reading this book because thanks to the second book I fell in
love with Jem and I knew that he was going probably going to die in
this final book. But Cassandra Clare surprised me. I really fully
believed he had died ! I couldn't keep reading the book after reading
Will's scene and the parabatai break. I had to stop reading it for a
day. I didn't even guess about the silent brother thing. I discovered
afterwards that there were theories going on about that for more than
a year before the publication but I didn't read any of those theories
before starting the book. She also surprised me with Tess. I really
didn't guess her family connection and what she really was. I loved
so many passages from this book : the flashbacks when Jem and Will
first met, when Will is ripped from his parabatai, learning about
Tess's necklace and the angel trapped inside, Tessa talking about her
whole life with Will... I could talk about this book for hours !!!
However even if I wasn't disappointed by Clockwork Princess I did not
like this book as much as the second book. I thought that Mortmain's
death was really fast and too easy and the story after that was quite
slow even if it was really emotional. I still gave this book 5 stars
though because Cassandra Clare didn't write something that I expected
and I love this. I was afraid before reading the epilogue because it
tends to be chessy and spoils the story for me (do you know what I'm
talking about? Yes JK. Rowling i'm still disappointed by your
epilogue) but here it was so heartbreaking and full of hope at the
same time without being chessy. Jem and Tessa's promise to see each
other every year on that bridge reminded me of Will and Lyra in
Philip Pullman's series. I think I really enjoyed this epilogue
because I love reading about immortals and their life through the
centuries. I found that fascinating and I would like to write
something like that. I was quite disappointed because we have a lot
of unanswered questions about Jem at the end but I can't wait to read
City of Heavenly Fire now to know more about it. It's crazy
because Cassandra Clare is giving us a cliffanger of another series
into the end of that series. She is so cruel. It was such a good end
especially when the author at the end explains that she had the idea
about this series with an image of these two characters on that
bridge. I also really liked the family tree map at the end how the
characters are connected to the characters in the Mortal
Instruments and in Cassandra's Clare future series the Dark
Artifices series. I also can't believe the epilogue of Clockwork
Princess was happening after City of Heavenly Fire. I just
can't comprehend how Cassandra Clare can connect all these characters
and stories. It's really impressive. I'm just glad I didn't look at
the family tree before starting the third book. Now I can't believe
this series is over. When I finished the book I didn't know what to
do with myself or what do read next. I was not ready to say goodbye.
Yes I know, it's a book hangover...

J'ai enfin lu Clockwork Prince, que j'ai adoré et mon exemplaire de Clockwork Princess devrait pas tarder à arriver .. Trop hâte !!
