Divergent by Veronica Roth

Rating : 5 / 5

Goodreads : In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

My review : OMG !!!! This book was ... AAAAHHHHH :D  !!!
Ok i'm going to try to do a review now !
First I need to say that i'm not a dystopian fan but I think I loved Divergent even more than the hunger games series. Yes this book is THAT great.
I was addicted and hooked since the beginning and I cannot put it down.
The idea of the different factions : dauntless, amity, abnegation, candor and erudite is so original and well developed. Veronica Roth has an amazing vision of humanity and the society, so true and honest. It is about what the world would be like if people tried to solve world conflict by targeting individual character flaws (instead of things like race, religion, politics, and socio-economic status). The whole idea for this book is incredible.
I love the characters and all the tensions between them.
I especially love the main character Tris. The book is from her POV. I felt Tris's fear like they were my own. I felt her sens of duty, her passion and the fears that haunted her. And getting to se her struggle to battle all these brutal test of strenght made me love her even more.
And Four... What can I say about this character? I'm already in love !
And omg Four and Tris... Their relationship is amazing. It felt right, realistic, it was not too quick and... I cannot describe it. It's so good for once to have a YA book without a triangle love.
The book is huge but I read it pretty quickly even during a busy week end, and I wasn't bored at any moment. It's one of those books that I wish I could read and everytime will be like the first time.
Well done Veronica Roth ! Divegent may be one of the best book i've read this year. I'm still thinking about it and when a book has that effect on me... well it means that i'm obviously obsessed about it !
I'm filled with admiration because Veronica Roth is such a young author ! But her book and writing really inspire me and I can't wait to read the second one now !

I was away for a few days with my family and I've spend an amazing week end reading Divergent in beautiful places like this :
(this is where I finished reading Divergent).

  1. Haven't read this one yet. I just got it last week from the Book Depository (it took ages to come for some reason), but I have decided to read a few other books before diving headfirst into Divergent. I am sure I am going to love it (it is impossible for so many people to be wrong), but I hate getting caught up in the hype, so I have decided to wait a little and will probably appreciate it better! (My mind seems to work in mysterious ways!)

Lovely review though! It is so obvious you loved the book! Also love the place where you finished it! Whereabouts in the world is it?? France?
